Today most medical findings are available digitally and, in theory, offer many possibilities. In practice, however, using them is often difficult. The data is spread across different databases, hard to compare and not automatically searchable.

Until now, digitalisation in healthcare has often been based on filing findings as PDFs. Important information is frequently lost in the process, and PDF files are unsuitable for automated workflows.
In medicaide the raw data is stored alongside the PDF files, provided the medical devices supply it, so that the data can be used to its full potential.
Because the raw data is stored, analyses and evaluations can still be carried out in the future without valuable information being lost. In this way medicaide secures an invaluable data base for current interpretation and for future methods.

medicaide firewall
The medicaide server has two network ports for setting up a separate network for medical devices. The outstanding feature of the medicaide firewall, however, is not the separation of the networks but their connection: while both networks are completely separate at protocol level, medicaide bridges them at application level.
- Clinic and practice management software is connected by dedicated services via the usual interfaces (HL7, GDT).
- Any medical device can be connected via the GDT interface in the medical device network.
- medicaide transfers examination requests from the IT side to the medical device side and routes findings back into the management software.

Data flow control
To ensure a smooth flow of data in everyday work, medicaide offers a wide range of options for intervening, such as:
- Renaming the PDF reports from medical devices so that they are named after the patient ID.
- Mapping incoming data into specific fields of the GDT files for medical devices with special requirements.
- The result router can retrieve the findings in PDF format from the medicaide server via a highly secure REST API connection and store them at a location of your choice in your network.

Identity and access management
With Keycloak, medicaide integrates a powerful identity and access management solution proven worldwide. You can choose whether to create a separate account for medicaide or to log in with your existing credentials. Keycloak also gives you the option of single sign-on, for example via Active Directory, LDAP or OpenID Connect.
Using Keycloak ensures that only authorised users have access to the data stored in medicaide.

medicaide is not intended to replace existing servers; it complements your existing IT infrastructure through a clear separation of responsibilities.
- The integrated SMB server on the IT side allows GDT files to be handed over from the practice management software and provides findings as PDF files.
- A second SMB server on the medical technology side is available to the medical device PCs for storing data.
- An integrated database server stores both the data for the worklist and the findings and raw data from the medical devices.
- A backup for the database and the SMB servers can be set up via the web administration interface.

HL7/GDT medical device integration
The GDT interface is available in almost every piece of medical device software. medicaide lets you integrate such GDT devices into clinic IT via the HL7 protocol — and it fits elegantly into both worlds.
In the clinic IT network, medicaide provides an IP port for ORM messages directly and sends findings as ORU messages to a configurable server. On the medical device side, medicaide provides an SMB server. This removes the break between IP-based clinic IT and file-based medical device communication.

Central configuration of all settings via the integrated web administration interface is a must.
One highlight of medicaide is the integrated safe remote access server. Use your browser to access the separated medical device PCs via the web interface at any time — via VNC, RDP or SSH, and only after you have granted permission. External technicians can be given controlled access to your medical technology at any time, without data reaching third-party servers.
