3M Skin Prep abrasive tape 2236

The 3M™ 2236 Skin Prep abrasive tape provides optimum and gentle skin preparation for the best possible recording quality.

The abrasive tape allows the uppermost layer of skin, which prevents good conductivity of ENG / ECG electrodes, to be removed gently. Studies have shown a markedly reduced skin impedance through the use of the abrasive tape. Skin irritation is minimised by handling the sandpaper material correctly:

  1. Tear off a piece about 2 cm long
  2. Stick this piece to a finger with its self-adhesive back
  3. Rub lightly over the spot where you want to attach the electrode
  4. Attach the electrode to the prepared spot

Tip: with wet gel electrodes, clip the electrode lead onto the electrode before sticking it on. This prevents the gel from being pressed out from under the adhesive surface when clipping on afterwards, which can make the electrode come loose during the measurement. It is also more pleasant for the patient if no pressure is applied to soft tissue while attaching the cable.
